Turned out to be good fun - good casting choices!

[personal profile] maharetr and I1 made cupcakes for K's birthday Tea Party and are now sinking gently into a sugar coma.

Muffins
1wherein she did most of the work and I helped a bit because I still can't look down :p

Happy, happy night with R. and [personal profile] maharetr with dinner in Fremantle followed by Mama Kin at the Art Centre and conversation at San Churro to finish.
  • The music: I love this woman's voice, her songs, her attitude and her presence
  • The food: lime brulee tart is the most seductive, incredible food
I feel like someone who needs more sleep but in a very 'time well spent' sort of way. I'm gonna curl up and purr.

We plan to test enhance this by getting together at the House of B&D and watching favourite episodes, vids and generally enthusing - there may be dressing up going on as well.

Saturday 27th @ 1pm

All welcome, we'll be making pancakes with sinful toppings to compensate for the James St place being CLOSED before 5pm so bring your favourite condiments to share :)

Despite clearly stated goals of sleeping + resting the long weekend didn’t quite work out as planned.

Saturday:
  • Beach with woofer: chocolate croissant from Abhi’s bakery, men with cameras stalk woofer in the surf (yes he is that pretty)
  • Fremantle Markets: am reminded again why I hate crowds, fail to acquire tree-frog leadlight sticker or a copy of the Skinner's Box book.
  • Visit brothers: provide snack food, receive appreciation. Watch football, be saddened by team, I’m surprised WCE lost by only 18 points. Baby brother has broken his foot falling out of a tree and is in a half cast up to his knee, mother has apparently been fetching things for him all week, no-one told *me*. Am not allowed to illustrate cast, take photos instead :p
  • Do laundry: clean room, admire ceiling, vacuum ceiling, vacuum feather boa accidentally – can’t quite believe it just ate the whole thing, didn’t know you could do that.
Sunday:
  • All OTW monthly meeting: arrive 5 mins late (7:05 am Sunday), deliver AD&T report, and celebrate progress
  • Cut grass: kill mower, buy whipptersnippter, cut grass more, rake, get blister (have perfectly circular sore on my thumb, looks like someone stubbed a cigarette out on me), throw ball for woofer into flowering bush, woofer covered in little blue flowers – knew it had a purpose (flowering bush, not woofer).
  • Slashgropers: loan Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to… everyone? Pimp Better Off Ted (made of awesome, go watch it, really), see remade Sanctuary pilot (not awesome) and pilot for The Unusuals (which is looking pretty decent)
  • Download Adam Lambert performances from American Idol – yes I know :(
Monday:
  • OTW – do unspecified *things* mostly involving the next code deploy, designs for Collections and Challenges and pondering an Admin interface re-design.
  • Coffee: spend an afternoon with [livejournal.com profile] girliejones for coffee – win!
  • Dinner: spend evening with [livejournal.com profile] flamebyrd and S.O. and [livejournal.com profile] maharetr starting with Indian food and followed by icecream. Meet [livejournal.com profile] pentapus, take [livejournal.com profile] pentapus home (bootleg American smuggling operation)
  • Made [livejournal.com profile] maharetr and [livejournal.com profile] pentapus watch Better Off Ted 1x01 & 1x02
Tuesday:
  • Froze neck, stayed home, read and slept.
  • Didn’t have to *make* anyone watch Better Off Ted 1x03 & 1x04 *grins*

Now that I know what a Graham Cracker is and what you can do to one when you have some lindt chocolate and a bag of marshamallows my life will never be the same again. I'm getting diabetes just remembering last night. Thank you to [profile] vegetariansushi for enabling us. You bad, bad woman.

In other news, washed clothes, walked around lake Monger, didn't get fined by the ranger for dogs off leash, bought five chairs for the dining room that have the incredible quality of not falling apart, got a wireless keyboard [loves] and spent some happy hours talking science over lunch. I also visited my beloved brother and had a long and lovely time catching up over very weak coffee as he has no teabags.

I win at life.

Had dinner at Sandrino's with [profile] haunted_attics, J., [personal profile] maharetr and N. and did that thing where you read the entire menu, try to decide between three things you really want then impulse order a fourth thing at the last second. The ravioli was very nice, so was the sticky date pudding, shall have to try it again when I don't have a cold.

We settled in at a table at the Fly by Night and listened to Schvendez who sang some melancholy, angry and whimsical songs. The woman singer has a nice, strong, dark voice and they suffer from 'young band' syndrome in that I don't think they quite know what they sound like in the venue.

The Dirty Three were quite something, bombastic, bitter and nasty and that was just the patter. The music is powerful and passionate and I've never seen rock done with a banjo and fiddle so successfully. Some great sound.

Much cooking was done, there were tarts and muffins and soup and fried stuff. We gave up on the brulee and but did very well in the lime custard tart stakes. Need more lime and thinner pastry but very, very nice.

Me: I better get more food so we can do lunch
AH: Just do dinner, people will have late breakfasts...

Ha!

Evangelion 10-18 were watched and we are still confused but happy.

Thanks to all for a lovely day.

Did vast amounts of laundry, went to TKD1, went to Yum Cha, went home, showered, slothed, cuddled woofer4 snacked, went to Vultures, sat in cute Indonesian day bed2, went to the Court, hung out, danced, got a smoothie3, came home.

Phew. Happy. Tired.

1lost all the skin off the bottom of two toes
2worked out that 68" is my height
3banana, mango, strawberry and blueberry.. I approve. Can't take smoothies into the Court - fear the corrupting powers of blueberries.

Earthsea the TV series exists. I am impressed; I am awestruck. I haven’t even watched it due to the DVD refusing to play sound but even expecting it to be unbelievably bad I want to see it. Watched Transporter 21 which has many good qualities, all of them to do with cheap violence, including a fabulously choreographed fight scene with fire hose, bucket and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of baddies.

Bought the perfect eggplant, cooked thai green chicken curry and ate vast amounts of it with chopped tomato, coriander, cashews and plain yoghurt. Ate the last of the date muffins; still have caramel sauce left over [fans self], I can hear my arteries going CLANG.

Found mystery ice-cream container in the cupboard with two large, purplely-black, melting, blobby, hairy things in it. [livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony I think you should know I’m scared of it.

1Mental Note: Don’t let other people use the coin flipping method to choose what to watch first in future. Coins with heads on both sides is cheating.

Went to Sandrinos with [livejournal.com profile] haunted_attics and [livejournal.com profile] maharetr for the purpose of eating sticky date pudding then failed to have enough room after the delicious seafood and salad. I need to go back specifically to eat dessert and people should go with me.

Met various paddlers at the Fly by Night and listened to Kill Devil Hills warm up who were mighty fine and whose album I shall acquire shortly. A local western band with an appreciation for what you can do with a fiddle, ukulele and a banjo. Very much liked the musical flexibility and overall sound.

The Mountain Goats have left me with one regret: that I did not already knew of them. The music was fabulous and interesting. John is funny and interspersed some darn fine music with amusing commentary. He also coped very gracefully with breaking a string in the first song and having no further replacements after apparently doing the same the previous two nights. Kill Devil Hills loaned him a guitar and all bad jokes about getting a cheer for putting the right thing in the right hole may not have been made but we thought them. More!

I had a very nice soup with little prawn-shaped thingies made of tofu with tiger stripes painted on them. The texture and flavour is different but definitely reminiscent of prawn-ness.

I'm not entirely clear on why a vegan would want to eat something dressed up as a dead animal, however I support having access to as many textures and flavours as possible.

Tom Yum soup is increasingly featuring tomato, a trend I do not support.

Slept in forever and got up at 11 which was fabulous. Good Sleep. This doesn't happen very often so I must dance about while I can.

Got up just in time to stop [livejournal.com profile] juffles buying a bigger1 crescent to fix the cold shower tap which stopped turning off yesterday. Had the enjoyable experience of someone else fixing it and being free to amble in and be nosy at intervals.

Went to Yum Cha with [livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony and various peoples, technically we were there to see JP but what with him being late we had to make do with other lovely company for most of the time [livejournal.com profile] kae_dash is talented in scoring random desserts [dramatic sigh] I suffer so.

Collected [livejournal.com profile] mynxii and spent some happy time pondering the mysteries (there are none) of Visio, acquired [livejournal.com profile] maharetr and [livejournal.com profile] psycho_tabby; watched some Supernatural then went out for dinner at the Hari Krishna place in Northbridge that does amazing vegetables and even better desserts.

We were followed by some young men on the way back to the car who said interesting things like "Having a good night? Want to make it ever better?" and even more interesting "It's OK if you're lesbians" which begs certain questions.

It's OK because once we've had them we'll never look back?
It's OK because they like to watch?
It's OK because they just want someone to talk to?
It's OK because they are impotent anyway?
Is this approach in any way successful - Does every 10th woman so approached give them a blowjob?
If the intent is to intimidate what is the best response?

1I may be a size queen, but as you may have noticed size does count.

Lovely weekend with [livejournal.com profile] maharetr destined for lazy shopping and watching BSG and Aeon Flux.

Found a Durian while looking for real food (so hard to find in a supermarket) and had to buy it. It was very disappointing smell and taste-wise. Battling through the spiky stuff and the overall structure of the fruit was really interesting. I think I need an expert to pick out a good one. Why can I dimly remember porny durian poetry?

Bought a new toy! Have laser pointer shaped like a tiny gun that flashes. It has a tiny filter so you can make the shape of a naked woman on the wall. I forgot to try it out on the fence across the road last night. Also! Instructions for use: Your laser pointer work if pressing down on/off button and it stops working if releasing the button. This is not true at all.

Watched BSG 18, 19 and 20 with breaks to sit out the back and wibble.

[livejournal.com profile] japester came by the share tales of battling mighty.. err severs.. and help eat icecream. After the saga of the evil bed it looks like it has repented of its ways and is willing to support many people.

Watched Aeon Flux the series, it was enigmatic, weird and twisted. Oh and entertaining. Animated french kissing is very, very wrong.

Read Dark Rivers of the Heart by Dean Koontz, was very easy to read in one sitting. I really liked the "Lie to me but don't lie to the dog" stuff.

Had another go at eating rock-melon today - it's the closest thing I've ever experienced to the taste of nausea. Might put off the next attempt for a couple of years.

Theory: Run around Kings Park then sort [livejournal.com profile] cricketk's books.

Reality: Jog around Kings Park; didn't jog it all of it, but didn't walk all of it either. [livejournal.com profile] cricketk's preferential bug attracting skills came in handy as I can lie on grass with impunity when she is near. Stretch a lot and shower; try random shower products - I love other people's bathrooms.

Buy food; impulse buy strange new fruit, get distracted by fabulous sounding wine and buy bottle. Eat fruit, fail to appreciate wine, have dinner. Damn [livejournal.com profile] cricketk can cook. [worships]

Look at books; decide to hunt down [livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony and demand cake instead.

Drive to South Perth; notice pretty lights on foreshore. Watch people waving coloured glowy balls that change colour and great big flaming thingies. Find out when where to learn firetwirling from friendly man, agonise over training schedule.

Bought on impulse because I've never seen one before. A bit disappointing, beautiful colours and interesting shape but not much of a smell and the flavour is quite bland. Much fun to be had from THIS website which was not created by someone who spoke a lot of english.

If you're thinking of coming over on Saturday via Mt Henry Bridge it looks like it will be closed - Canning Hwy is open.

Looks like most of the Narrows Bridge will be out of action too.

I'm inclined to start packing kitcheny things but [livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony implied he might possibly make brownies so now I'm all conflicted.

Thursday: involved seeing episodes 1, 2 & 3 of the new Dr Who courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] cricketk and liking it a lot.

Friday: involved starting a new gym program, not moving a pool table, threatening to eat [livejournal.com profile] cricketk's housemate, waiting an eternity for pizza, playing upwords and watching twister (there will be the acquiring of, and playing, of this game).

Saturday: involved a home re-enactment of [livejournal.com profile] juffles and I having breakfast in Freo except with [livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony doing the dishes after. There was also much being visited, love, Firefly, Black Books and The Boondock Saints which I have finally lured most of my friends into watching.

Sunday: involved a lot of sleeping, chatting at Dome, finding of random people not meant to be meeting at Dome and eating of indian food.

Oh and [livejournal.com profile] maharetr, the game I was playing.. Nethack
