  • Installed aircon in [personal profile] chaosmanor's bedroom so she doesn't accidentally dessicate this summer - would be the Best Mummy Ever but prefer her hydrated
  • Fixed leaking toilet pipe problem. Well, plumber fixed, I just annoyed plumber with lots of questions about plumbing.
  • Wrote 1504 and 2379 word essays for Negotiation and handed them in then edited Ethics down to 3257 and sent to group for comments *brain melts out ears*
  • Upgraded iPad from 3.2.1 to 3.2.2 and successfully jailbroke it again \o/
  • Bought a spray skirt for Carolina, a dry bag and some gloves (fear of sunblock). Have been paddling many times, it’s fantastic and intend to do it a lot more
  • Ordered Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 - choice partially dictated by being able to get it for $160 but picture quality, weight and optical were also factors
  • Finalised maps and clue sheets for Rogaine, I admit to a tiny amount of anxiety about how it is received - bring on Saturday!
  • Have two books waiting for me to finish the Trimester so I can read again, oh reading, I miss you so

  • Home sick on Monday and then Thursday, body was not happy :(
  • Reclaim the Night Rally, my first - I'm uncomfortable with the idea that the night is extra dangerous to women but think protesting against sexual violence to women is important
  • Bought a kayak and went for a paddle as the sun went down on the Canning River - was fabulous and I'm so happy I got her.
  • 4.5 hour haircut - I've got a 65cm ponytail in a bag and BRIGHT PINK hair
  • Pride! House Martian [personal profile] chaosmanor participated dressed as as nun; this later led to some spirited shouting from a man in a taxi, the new house slogan is "No touching, the Nun says No!". [personal profile] maharetr[personal profile] transcendancing and I supportively went out for dinner and provided squee

The Carolina 12 is 3.6m long and weighs about 23kg, it has a front and rear hatch for storage and is supposed to be a great entry level touring boat. Whee!

New toy!

  • Bought a ridiculously expensive plasma television and had the fun of connecting it to various peripherals then the more substantial fun of playing all sorts of things on it to see what it does. We've retired the projector and now there is a wall of sleek, black 'stuff.'
  • Went paddling Saturday morning, got very wet. Also got smacked on the head with a paddle during polo, small bump has mostly receded.
  • Took my beloved hiking boots back to Paddy Palins to find ones that don’t let water in (wet socks are not fun) with the secondary goal of buying another pair of the same boots to continue to wear to work. V. nice man confirmed water should not be in boots and sent them off for a warranty inspection. A quick old-new comparison shows I’ve almost completely worn down those multidirectional lugs.
  • Hike was good fun! [personal profile] maharetr[personal profile] ascetic_hedony, Ginny, the woofer and I did 10.4km at about 5.7 km/hr and got to watch the sun go down over the ocean as we walked and chatted. The Naked Fig is far too classy to be a café and their hot chocolate is not sufficiently chocolaty.
  • Sunday morning was plumbing support for [personal profile] transcendancing, who has dripping taps (now she has replacements, WD-40 and an increased desire to hit things), followed by cuddles and talks.
  • Mother's Day dinner was peaceful except for the bit where Magic (my mother's cat) tried to kill brother R. by attacking his hair (a fruitless task, there is more hair than cat) - possibly revenge for R. nicknaming his cat 'Squidlington.'
  • Traded 3 laptops for a recommission of one, a second wireless keyboard, a promise of a pair of pants and access to a really big ladder - my brothers and I have a complicated but highly successful barter system.
  • It turns out the wood saw [personal profile] maharetr and I speculated was stolen by one of our fathers was actually stolen by my mama who also suffers from the delusion that none of her children owns a power drill *mystified*

There were dolphins in the bay and humans too once we got around to practicing our hand of god rescues. P. half saved me then collapsed giggling over my boat which was possibly a message not to shout things about the Kraken approaching when I capsize or maybe just nerves at having to rescue my unconscious body. We worked on our paddle skills and had a quick game of polo as well then came in just after dark.

...after it chewed its way into a PFD and stayed behind to slowly dry out over about three years have you?

cut for desiccated mouse photo )

Went paddling this evening, took the purple dagger. There were hugs in the parking lot when people I haven't seen for years were unexpectedly there and then lots of splooshing and getting wet. I'm realising I'm still not even close to my old, confident self on the water but I had a fantastic time playing polo and hanging out with everyone.

It has been WAY TOO LONG since I did this - [personal profile] maharetr came as well for her first time. We spent a couple of hours noodling around in the playboats, practising deep sea rescues and playing ball and now I am pleasantly sleepy.

Lovely day; am utterly pooped now; went paddling this morning and saw dolphins and pelicans splooshing in the bay before rushing home to shower and bake.

With the gracious help of many lovely people and their laptops we uploaded a good 500 more books of mine, quite a few of [personal profile] ascetic_hedony's and ate a lot of little pink cakes.

I think I've paddled myself out over the last few days.

I'm going to see Ningaloo at last!

[happy dance]

I'll be away from 22nd June to 2nd July; Manager approved my leave request on the spot. [personal profile] ascetic_hedony is very kindly willing to look after the dogs (shall provide love and bribes) and, and Ningaloo!

Shoulder rotator cuff impingement.

No sport for two weeks; have paid a physiotherapist to hurt me and give me new exercises to do... again.

Physio also said nice things about my upper body strength for which I am choosing to forgive the excruciating shoulder massage.

Good fun but more organising called for. 2.5 hours worth of paddling saw my left shoulder quite sore, much stretching after, hopefully it will be fine. Am really starting to understand S's obsession with fruitcake.

What's this!
A herd of these!

What's this!
A dead one of those!

Was cold and dark and fun and wet. The hot shower bit later was unbelievably good.

Must buy more toys.

Rolling practise again, am still making certain mistakes but progressing. Am also feeling a lot better about being able to explain how to do it to other people.

Went food hunting with KF after and ended up in Retro Betty's. KF was half way through my burger before we realised she had mine and the amazingly nice staff made me another one. This may have been to stop us singing them any more songs or whimpering loudly.

Spent the entire morning doing paddling related activities. Did F2 Assessment and feel pretty good about it. Did demonstrate many rescues and paddle strokes and can now relax (and get warm).

Took Wendy and Kenobi to South Beach to meet PRK and Jaffar. Wendy and Jaffar expressed themselves quite loudly and thoroughly more than once but I feel it was 99% show. Wendy has a toothmark in her ear though where Jaffar's snapping obviously caught her but given they could both have been covered in teethmarks I suspect it was an accident.

Jaffar and Kenobi fetched balls nobly from the surf until Jaffar found what was quite clearly a lost 'giant dog toy' and attempted to dig it out and chew on it. Silly boy.
Jaffar attempting to unearth the 'giant dog play toy' left at the beach. Jaffar attempting to unearth the 'giant dog play toy' left at the beach.

Visited family and spent time with brothers and mother. Saw the Dockers beat the Eagles by 4 points. Hehe.

Paddling was fun, did slightly less than the full hour. Sunset truely beautiful above the water. F2 Assessment on Saturday [wibble] must study.

Some solid paddling for an hour, came back in the dark with a little light clipped on our lead paddler - I think we might want to have more of those things. Was easier on the way back facing into the wind, had some patches where I was just paddling, watching the water unfold before me and really enjoying the rhythm. Did much stretching after.

Matilda Bay. The water was amazing, glassy smooth, no wind and you could just see the rain clouds coming in. I had the sense of being between two worlds; storm and sunshine. I think this looks a lot like a sheep pratfall but [livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony thinks it looks more like a big-headed bird in flight.

Cloud sheep Cloud sheep

Did a comfortable hour of distance paddling using all the available light. Tried out the Finn Kayak and liked it very much, bit more wobbly than the 415s.

Went from Bassendean to Guildford using a sea kayak. Was a bit worried about carrying sea kayaks on Lambert - need cradles to carry something that long with a clear conscience.

Distance was about 10km and very enjoyable, far prettier than closer to the city and company most worthwhile. Trip made even better by the bewildering array of snacks we all brought; clear winner was chocolate chocolate chip coconut and cherry cupcakes.

Can plot route on google earth which makes me ridiculously happy.

Magical.

Drove into the car park with some very appropriate classical music playing to be greeted with flat, silvery water slowly turning to pink and gold as the sun rose. A pod of dolphins were fishing in the bay - they swam all around us and did jumps while we were paddling. Over to the west were small clouds and a rainbow.

I kept expecting to see carebears or smurfs or something on the shore.

Gawd. So boring. I read stuff.

Thank goodness I had paddling to look forward to, was there late, used one of the bigger boats and talked some newbies through basic paddle strokes. Hehe, you can steal balls more easily with a bigger boat.

Told M. and far too many bystanders all about my paddling experience using interpretive dance. I don't think I'll be living that down any time soon. I do a darn good jellyfish though.

BGS 2x20. Holy fraking frak.

Yay!

Picked up Lambert, he is all shiny and has a brand new rear tyre cover (was accidentally upgraded when shop sent wrong type cover). My car is pretty and fixed and nice, nice man fixed accidental embarrassing damage that we aren't ever going to talk about ever again.

Went to rolling session - must take brownies nd a bad joke - took lamingtons and the Jesus and Moses playing golf joke. Did much rolling; still completely fuck it up sometimes but feeling very good about it. Want nose clip device for not inhaling water - have horror of doing it in Matilda Bay and accidentally snorting a jellyfish. Have very clean sinuses.

Went out for Chinese after and got told a very funny story about whitewater rafting on an inflatable crocodile.

No car, no TKD, no sploo... wait!

Bus to paddling after work, arrived just in time to get a boat - hot day, lots of people. Did play games and splash a lot, practiced draw and scull strokes and hand of god rescue for F2 assessment - hoping to do it some time in the next month.

Finished up, admired bus stop, admired night sky, admired sea breeze then walked home.
