I'm doing my Data Analysis assignment on Supernatural_fic because hey, why waste an opportunity to do something fun and it's a good seven months out of date and there's no way I can catch up on tagging the spnnewsletter in time. I will have to leave Season 5 out - woe!

Are there hardy souls out there who would be up for helping and doing a month each? I estimate it takes me about 20 hours to do 30 newsletters which is a great opportunity to mainline a TV series you haven't got around to watching.. (or two!) go on, you know you want to help. *flails* Assignment is not due until late July so there is time to tag everything if people can help.

I can promise regression analysis, time series analysis and serious commentary on the rise of Dean/Castiel plus I will love you forever and praise you and maybe, you know, knit you something and post it to you¹ or, if knitted goods terrify you I will send you something uniquely Australian that is not a kangaroo scrotum.

The spnnewsletter  hit 1050 editions on the 24th January (12 episodes aired) and Supernatural_fic hit 27,360 entries.

Edition 850 brings us to 22,705 items tagged and I feel an urge to run Category stats again. Very little has changed since November 2007, for the entire fandom Slash increased slightly to 52.52%, Wincest sank slightly to 33.05%, Het crept up slightly to 14.74%, Gen sank slightly to 31.18%, Femslash rose to a whole 0.30% and CW:RPF rose to 18.44%.

I've also tagged all the spn_j2_bigbang  out for 2008 so far - go read them!

Many, many thanks to the beautiful maharetr  who helped tag the last 50 newsletters - I'm still looking some some hardy souls who would be up for either skimming a lot of Gen fic and filling in Character tags (~4,000 to go) or investigating and fixing the Pairing:Not:Known tags (1,041 in existence) - email black_samvara at livejournal dot com. If you want to know a little more about what I’ve been doing my notes are here. No previous knowledge of del.icio.us is needed, it's quite easy to use.

Supernatural_fic now has a Character tag for the Gen fic; for which you should thank hossgal who suggested it. I'm working backwards from today and hit August 2007 recently - I'll keep working on it. The 10 most popular characters not including Sam and Dean are listed below. It pleases me that half are women and one is a car. No doubt this will change when total numbers are in (about 1/3 done so far)

It's a nice round number and brings total fic tagged to 18,049. In the last 50 days the spnnewsletter listed an impressive 1,344 new fic and that doesn't include the vast amount of updates to WIPs. There was a 7% increase in Het within that 1,344 which I am tempted to call Ruby and Bela getting some angry sex.

In addition to Supernatural_fic being able to filter off Author, Category, Rating and Pairing you can also filter by Fandom and by Collection. Collection is a new bundle; it is a work in progress and currently captures the following challenges: j2_otpathon, spn_50states, spn_j2_bigbang, spn_halloween and spn_harlequin. I'd like to stick to largely completed ficathons although I'm happy to tag the community in order to remember it and wander back a few months later.

I would love to hear suggestions for other challenges/ficathons!

Supernatural_fic detailed tagging information and error reporting post, comment here with the correct information to have a tagged link updated/fixed.

The Rough Plan:

1. Tag all fic in spnnewsletter including RPF; will not be tagging news, meta or vids etc.
2. URLs will be cleaned of extras such as #cutid, ?style=mine, ?format=light etc.
3. Only one instance of a story told in parts will be tagged. I would like, in an ideal world to link to a master post that links to all chapters of a fic.
   ** I don't automatically ignore a fic if it has 'part 2' on it - I check to see if it's already tagged by searching Supernatural_fic by Author and then I ignore it.
4. Authors who have since deleted their journals / left LJ will be included for stats (tag = LJ:Deleted).
5. Warnings such as deathfic, darkfic, rape, evil!sam, girl!Dean and mpreg will go in the Description/Notes field if noted in spnnewsletter.
6. Put the spnnewsletter edition number in the Description Title field (it's tidier) of the last fic tagged on that edition.
