Had another go at eating rock-melon today - it's the closest thing I've ever experienced to the taste of nausea. Might put off the next attempt for a couple of years.

Mm. It's not exactly my favouritest thing ever, but I like it so much more than watermelon.

And also, I just want to leave comments in your LJ, so our two star-system icons can talk to each other.

I bought a fruit salad for breakfast, even the smell is disturbing.. I don't get it!

[grin]

I have that feeling about fresh paw paw.

See I understand not liking the taste; that's how I feel about raw green capsicum; but the taste is not that bad, it's the after-taste/feeling that's awful.

Paw Paw for me is less taste, more feeling that I have as I eat it. IT's weird, so I don't eat it often. But I can eat dried paw paw just fine.

The dried stuff is great - I really, really like dried pineapple.

The dried stuff is great in small pieces - that grocer on William St in Northbridge whose name I can't remember sells big strips of dried pawpaw, and it makes my stomach feel wierd.

Your description of rockmelon pretty much fits mine of banana. :)

Merely reminded me of possibilities.

Could be the amount of 'sweet' used in the drying process.
Sugar can act as a preservative.

I can't stand roackmelon either. Taste, texture, smell all VERY off putting.

I can still remember when I got appendicitis and being sick? stupid? young? decided that what I was feeling just must be hunger pains and forced myself to eat rockmelon (which I didn't like even then) and wheatbix, and then slowly throwing it all back up again. >.<

Horrible horrible fruit.

Ugh, that sounds awful.

You summed up the taste well. Thank you for that.
I would say paw paw tastes almost the same, only peppery. Peppery nausea....eeewww.

Double_ugh.

Although small amounts of dried pawpaw is quite OK.

You people seem odd to me - I've yet to find a fruit that I don't enjoy (puns expected).

Yet I find the smell of hot butter unappealing, though not quite nausea inducing. Same thing with cooking meat, except that I can tolerate it from about an hour after I wake up. Might actually be related to how full my stomach is.

I am totally unsurprised by this. You live on an entirely different set of food groups to the rest of us.
