Oglaf, Old Spice Guy (Commercials)
Four Seasons
by  (The Lesbian Mercenary/The Snow Queen) E
Four seasons in the life of the hot lesbian mercenary. Mjules' letter links to the relevant comic strips.
Oglaf is a new (to me) definitely NSFW Fandom that made me laugh a lot when I followed the links.

Star Trek (2009)
You'll Get There in the End (It Just Takes a While)
by  (James T. Kirk/Spock, Spock/Nyota Uhura) E
"Spock. Just say 'I don't trust Starfleet not to mess up the only captain in the fleet who I can train up to my expectations and enjoys running into danger wearing a blindfold as much as I do'."
Newbie to Trek fandom, so no perspective but this felt like a winning approach to integrating the new canon from the perspective of the new people.

White Collar
Always Starts the Same, with a Boy and a Girl
by (Neal/Elizabeth, Peter/Elizabeth, Neal/Peter, Neal/Peter/Elizabeth) E
Summer, 1998. Neal Caffrey robs the gallery where Elizabeth O'Dell is working late, and comes away with a lot more than art. Agent Burke has no idea what's about to hit him.
What if Neal met Elizabeth first?

Con Dance
by (June) T
Neal thinks his meeting with June was an accident. June, reaping the benefits of a con man in her guest room, knows much better.
This is delightful.

Stargate: Atlantis
Indelible
by (Rodney McKay/John Sheppard) E
John has a useful gift for compartmentalization: he discards the irrelevant and moves on. Then Rodney makes an ill-considered move on a mission, John steps up to take responsibility for making reparations to the locals, and things take a turn for the complicated as Rodney, an alien society, and an armada of ships make standard operating procedure completely impossible.
Fascinating premise.

How Not to Fly
by (Rodney McKay/John Sheppard) E
And then the door chimed, and Woolsey came in looking mournful and anxious, and everything got derailed.

Death and life, hope and hopelessness, aren't just for the Pegasus galaxy. Eventually, inevitably, it's going to happen on Earth. John and Rodney, loss and family and what it means to be home.

Harry Potter - Rowling

Little Red Courgette
by (Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter) T
When this season's purple courgettes are woefully thin, Draco Malfoy thinks it amounts to small beans. Next thing he knows, the Department of Standards is over-run with leeks, Brussels sprouts all sorts of legislative difficulties, and somebody appears to have put a roquette under Harry Potter. Can Draco seize a marrow victory? Or will his plans for peas be squashed?
Funny! I laughed and had to read bits out to my long-suffering husemates.

Merlin (BBC)

A Study in Natural Philosophy
by (Arthur/Merlin) T
It wasn't all that unusual for people to hide their daemons; Merlin, however, seems to be taking it a little far.
His Dark Materials fusion; I thought the daemon choices were most apt.

I've been surfing the AO3 and finding old friends and new ones.

Supernatural
The Girlfriend Experience
by (Dean/Castiel) E
15,393. While it's not like Dean hasn't had a couple of truly regrettable hit-and-runs in his sexual history, this is probably the saddest fucking thing that has ever happened to him. Crack, but the kind that breaks your heart while you laugh.
I Got Soul but I'm Not a Soldier
by (Dean/Castiel) T
100,014. AU: Castiel is on the road (saving people, helping things) when he meets Dean and realizes that his soul is different - and not just because he's the pastor's son. I didn't know what to expect, and this is really AU and well, it's kind of gorgeous.

Supernatural RPF
Butterflies and Hurricanes
by (Jared/Jensen) T
13,346. Genetically-enhanced psychic assassins. I am not sure I can express how happy this makes me.
The Death of Jensen Ackles
by (Jared/Jensen) T
10,195. This is NOT a death story. Jensen and Jared are friends-with-benefits until something happens that changes everything. I really like the way this plays out.

Pride and Prejudice
Season of Courtship
by (Elizabeth/Darcy) T
40,119. Set just after Pride and Prejudice. Made of awesome, I didn't know how much I wanted this until I read it. Later parts make me squeal with laughter.
Five Sons Mr and Mrs Bennet Never Had
by (you're going to have to go look) G
3,929. A series of what-ifs exploring in turn the possibilities had any of the Bennet girls been born male. Seriously good stuff.

Sherlock (TV)
A Priori
by (Sherlock/Watson)T
6,659. In which vampires have enslaved humans and control, well, everything. Tres cool vampire AU.

Merlin (BBC)
Like a Fish Needs a Bicycle
by (Morgana/Vivian) T
8,860. In which Morgana is the gayest girl in Camelot, Uther wants a wedding, Arthur tries to be helpful, Gwen's wasted on men and Vivian getting hit by that love spell ruins everything. Morgana FTW!

The Student Prince by (Arthur/Merlin) R
147,049. All kinds of fantastic, modern UK college AU that had me swept up, entranced and sometimes, giggling helplessly.

...featuring teetotal kickboxers, secret wizards, magnificent bodyguards of various genders, irate fairies, imprisoned dragons, crumbling gothic architecture, arrogant princes, adorable engineering students, stolen gold, magical doorways, attempted assassination, drunken students, shaving foam fights, embarrassing mornings after, The Hammer Dance, duty, responsibility, friendship and true love...

  • Birthday present for Pop was a success despite jokes about paternity tests. Now to figure out how to request a retest for X chromosomes. I’d link you to the actual site but it has a crappy load time so have wikipedia instead.
  • Chopped off a small amount of hair for a mineral analysis, felt a bit like an idiot.
  • Bought towels, chilli red ones.
  • Realised rest of assessment for my unit is in class tests and a final open book exam – too easy, I was thinking there was a group assignment in there somewhere but assessment was changed.
  • Watched Footy finals with brothers and associated friends, there was much singing and shouting. Loved it. Have Best Brothers Ever.
  • Up to date in Merlin and Supernatural (and loving it)
  • Watched all six episodes of Krod Mandoon which was very, very cheap and knew it.

  • Insane pre-essay reading following by some slightly more insane spreadsheeting following by writing punctuated by all five Kübler-Ross stages (it has to be said Bargaining was the most fun - I made [personal profile] maharetr take me out for smoothies and hot chocolate and even though the smoothie service failed and I had NO SMOOTHIE it was a lovely break from reality)
  • I am particularly fond of an article entitled "The Impact of Conflict and Conflict Management Style on Deadbeats and Deserters in Virtual Teams" it should be a rap song or something. *feels sorry for deadbeats*
  • Supernatural S2E02. I am up to date but unable to engage emotionally, it is all too much. *does 'woe' hands*
  • Trip out to Bakers Hill to hug people, watch vids, eat yummy food and watch S2 Merlin. Oh Merlin, I love not having to take you seriously, please stay so delightfully silly. Arthur, feel free to be all half naked and moonlight at any time. I may have vented a bit. Thank you for putting up with me, you know who you are.
  • xkcd has released a book (yes, you should be excited)

We plan to test enhance this by getting together at the House of B&D and watching favourite episodes, vids and generally enthusing - there may be dressing up going on as well.

Saturday 27th @ 1pm

All welcome, we'll be making pancakes with sinful toppings to compensate for the James St place being CLOSED before 5pm so bring your favourite condiments to share :)

Too busy to read and rec = something seriously wrong in my world. The state of the fannishness:
  • Supernatural still my first love, both the show and the fandom.
  • Merlin is absolutely adorable.
  • Being Human (now that I'm getting over the recasting) is looking interesting.
  • Battlestar Galactica still the most grimly depressing yet hypnotic thing I've ever watched.
  • Avatar ate my life until I'd seen it all
