  • Project managed [personal profile] maharetr within an inch of her life
  • Up to date on Better off Ted (my crush on Veronica is epic) and Leverage; seriously love both shows
  • Washed the woofer, have run out of dog soap and used up last of dog polish but still have flea shampoo – not as cool
  • Investigated toadstool macro-photography
  • Hosted [personal profile] lemmings's birthday party which boasted many baked goods, musicals and singing. We revisited Dr. Horrible, random song/dance vids, Buffy, and Scrubs, and Bride & Prejudice then took a tour through some highlights of Bollywood. Sharukhan for the win!
  • AD&T meeting bright and early, combined being hyper with being underslept and settled on a very quiet afternoon to compensate

The woofer is clearly not going to be protecting us from amphibious home invasion, this little guy was mostly to my bedroom door before it occurred to us that it wasn't a stray ball of dog fur. [livejournal.com profile] maharetr took photos of it for identification.

I''m voting for a moaning frog called Eyrei what with being ...commonly seen and heard frogs in the Perth region. It is a medium to largish frog, with a brown-grey back covered in yellow or grey-black patches. It has a rather rounded snout and large eyes. It is generally a stout and squat frog, without webbed feet... (apparently cane toad have webbed back feet)

Frog! )

The complete lack of brackets holding them on the correct angle says to me... No.

I bought this summer's Rogaining pants recently and impulse bought

something... )

It's wobbly and bounces and smells like a petroleum refinery. I'm not sure if it's awesome or really gross but several games of office netball later we all agree it's $7.95 worth of good fun. I'm also that much closer to having a hot shower with the delivery of something significantly more expensive and the following memorable exchange...

Man: Hi! I'm about to deliver your system do you have a fork lift?
Me: ... no.

  • Saw the new Shakespeare WA launch itself with A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Kings Park and they did a fine job. Hermia was a little weak but Helena more than made up for it and what I think of as ‘the dwarf scene’ was hilarious.
  • AD&T and Swancon2009 meetings this weekend, I don’t know what I’d do without my awesome committee members.
  • Bought a mop and cleaned the laundry floor.
  • Marathoned all four Alien movies, still love Aliens the most (because I love muscle-y running and explosions) but was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked Alien 3 which I usually think of as the weaker of the quartet.
  • Wrote an application for a job that looks rather cool and anguished to people about the submission rules *flings self into the hands of fate*.
  • Decided to switch the house hot water system to solar rather than gas and did some exciting calling and spending of money *is limp*

Eh, I was always planning on converting from an electrical hot water system to gas but was not expecting it to be quite this dramatic, for example I was expecting to save up for it first :p

Account number assigned, paperwork is in, Alinta to install gas line some time in the next two weeks, contractors lined up to rewire necessary power and install heating unit as soon as line is in. Geranium removed from critical path. I never liked the geranium.

  • Failed to sleep in. Damn. Had first 'OMG not going back to sleep' nightmare in over 10 years very early Friday morning.
  • Watched most of S2 Avatar: The Last Airbender as an alternative to sleep. Love it.
  • First Archive of Our Own Design group meeting for 2009. *fondles Archive inappropriately*
  • Swancon2009 committee programming workshop *loves on my entire, awesome committee but [info]shrydar especially*
  • Applied duct tape to my air conditioning duct. First ever correct use of duct tape.
  • Poured insect repellent over my new beehive using a cunningly designed device made partially from... duct tape.
  • Orienteering with [info]zebra363 followed by play equipment climbing. Beautiful day, perfect weather, good friends.
  • Tendency to get lightheaded and fall over continues into the evening; nothing as amusing as falling off the floor.
  • Pineapple, icecream and rum smoothie for dessert.

The beautiful [personal profile] prk donated a laptop to the House of B&D, I purchased shelf making gear, [personal profile] maharetr did some dedicated tool wrangling and moral support and the house is a lot nicer as a result. Iron Man, crawling back to the gym after cancelling to work late and said shelf building has left me feeling less like someone who does nothing but work and sleep and more like someone with a life and goals.

*gloats*

It's trying to produce a second round of fruit, poor thing. It's young! And inexperienced!.

Photo of the reminder note to [personal profile] maharetr to herself that becomes the reminder to me if she forgets to read it.

Dinner in Fremantle with [personal profile] maharetr , sunset over the ocean, live music at the Fly by Night (aussie soft pub rock / folk schmoop / blues), some light household maintenance (at least one task per week damnit), discovering it’s a vacuuming day (the Universe decides – we don’t) beach with the woofer (there are few things in the world better than putting your face into the side of a freshly sunbaked, clean dog), dinner with mother and brothers.

Have also started watching Carnivale and Kyle XY, both of which I blame on [personal profile] ascetic_hedony. Have seen a truely ridiculous amount of media in the last six weeks.

Torchwood S1 which has great individual episode writing and no overall story - this drives me crazy.
Doctor Who S3 which I thoroughly enjoyed. John Simm was wonderful.
Ultraviolet the TV series which was dark and interesting .
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm which was just ridiculous.
Smallville S6 which is cracktastic, I blame [personal profile] cupidsbow. I shall watch S7.
Eureka S2 which is even stronger than S1 and still very amusing.

I realise this is probably only of interest to me. My chicken and mulberry recipe called for thyme and after utterly failing to find any in a shop I ended up buying potted thyme and accidentally starting a herb bed. I'm starting with sweet basil, thyme and coriander.

I'm now wondering if I could make the entire front 'lawn' into a herb bed and just mow it flat every now and then - would smell nice.

Two days of sawing, hacksawing, drilling and excessive screwdriver use plus some unpacking of boxes has left me incredibly glad I'm ambidextrous enough to use both hands for most tasks. I now have floor to ceiling shelves coating the largest wall in the spare room and shan't be getting down books by authors in "A" or "B" without a ladder. [livejournal.com profile] prk you are absolutely right, I broke three drills bits, two through sloppy technique and one from tripping over the power cord and hurling the drill to it's doom (not on my head though, I get points for this right?).

I've unpacked 3/4 of the boxes and all the speculative fiction is now up excluding random books that snuck into other boxes when I wasn't looking. The remaining 11 boxes are waiting for a burst of energy to unpack texts, non-fiction and fiction. I also found my 'to read' pile which makes me very happy

[livejournal.com profile] mr_booboo this means I have found your Dresden Files books if you wants them - I haven't had a chance to read yet so I hope you're not in a hurry.
[livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony do you have my copy of Hunters Oath by Michelle West? I'm just curious, everyone should have a chance to love that book.
[livejournal.com profile] japester do you have all the Merry Gentry books or was that someone else?

Many, many thanks to the wonderful, organised, supportive people who helped with the house moving on Saturday – could not have survived without you – the flu has knocked me flat.

Have joined the local library and pounced their internet – should have ours on for Thursday [hopes].

The woofer is bouncing off the walls so we took our first walk this morning. Found three lemon trees (stole one lemon), a Weeping Mulberry, a White Mulberry (clearly I need to plan the Black Mulberry), a very cute park with all native trees and worked out today is bin day.

Housewarming and Birthday parties still on for Saturday 30th, all welcome.

People have asked about housewarming gifts and the answer is we don’t actually know what we have/need yet. I would like to plant passionfruit and kiwifruit vines, we probably need more soft cushions and throw rugs/warm things and we always need more books.

I can remember being about three and standing under one eating berries with my mother. All through summer, while growing up, my brothers and I would visit local Mulberry trees then come home sticky, purple and content. The second last place I rented had one leaning over our back fence and for as long as there was fruit I would stand under it whenever I could.

They take me back to memories of warm, dappled light, dark purple stains on my fingers and feet, skin scraped off on rough bark, adventures with my brothers, the smell of the leaves and the taste the fruit.

Now that I own a house it's not a question of *if*, or even *when*, it's a question of where to get one and where exactly to plant it.

Some eight telephone calls later and a lot of people saying: "Oh you can't get those / we don't stock those / haven't seen them for a while / might get some in later" I found a place with exactly the species I want which also happened to be closer than any other store I called.

I am ridiculously pleased.

The perfect cookbook and Furry Logic: Guide to Life's Little Challenges. This is a great combination, once you've achieved enlightenment through communing with animals you can eat them.

I cleaned our outside toilet yesterday including walls and ceiling, did it with a hose, accidentally cleaned self in process. Was very satisfying excepting the sodding enormous spider that relocated briefly to my hair. Have hung the hammock, moved the trebuchet out of poking_in_butt range, and read leisurely in said hammock. It's working for me.
