I've been tired, sore, shitty and disinclined to post but am over it. Shall backdate in my usual fashion so fear not the spam.

Bought the camera of my dreams yesterday - am planning on having a very good time playing with all the settings.

Awesome! :D

Max zoom level is pretty bloody impressive...the tree shot looks cool...south beach carpark shot is excellent with the contrasting light levels and 'awwwww' at the boxer puppy. :)

Thanks! You are teh sweetest.

Zoom.. [flex]

Only bad thing so far is S2-IS requires drivers to talk to Win2k so shall have to install on work computer.

*admires flexed zoom muscle*

Doesn't surprise me, when you consider that Win2k is ~6 years old. From what I've heard, the format of the camera's memory card pretty much determines whether it'll talk to older OSes without supplying drivers.

That surprises me though, a memory card is pretty much file system and available as a mountable disk image with a directory (or many) and some jpegs. Best solution, persuade work to upgrade everyone to Macintosh. (-; They'll even be able to slim down the IT support team too, good cost cutting measure. Your masters will adore you.

A memory card IS pretty much a removable drive, but being able to access that interface relies on the OS knowing wtf is plugged into the USB port. Don't forget support for standard USB memory sticks wasn't included in Windows until Win2k, and some of the newer cards/cameras presumably don't conform to that spec.

ps. Macs are for the brave, adventurous or bloody stupid....hmm, you're right - that is a pretty compelling argument for the government to switch.
