- Two of my beautiful yarn purchases arrived so we broke in
maharetr 's ball winder. Now all I need is some 2-3mm circs and I'm good to start knitting again. Will use the Cerise - Hand dyed Wool-Cashmere Laceweight Yarn for my test knit then the Luxury Iris Lace Pure Silk Yarn - Hot OOAK for my final.
- Big OTW week, Seven weeks so far… emotional labour significant. Thank goodness for
cupidsbow who is thoughtful and calm at me.
- Up to Ep 05 in Elementary, still enjoying it a lot.
- Need to find time to watch Ep 03 of Bletchley Circle
- Played a lot of Kingdom Rush
- Have now seen a lot of rings - some preferences developing. Explained to father this is probably the closest I will ever come to being engaged / married - he is v. supportive although a bit weirded out.
- Not as weirded out as the dude in the jewellers who asked what we wanted the rings for (engagement! marriage!) and who was getting them (all of us!) and then finally worked out we wanted them similar or themed.

umh.
We're all interested in different gem colours, so one way to go would be to select a design and then each go with the colour we love the most - I am blue by the way :)

Or we could go simple (ethical!) and beautiful

Another way would be something with a pattern - some of us like the idea of a pattern that symbolises interlinkedness.

We ended up having rings made by a local jeweler near my work, and bought heavy carved white gold bands. My own experience with rings with stones is that after several years of wearing the settings can really take a beating, and then you lose stones. :( Even if you take them in for servicing. So I would advise asking the jeweler a lot of questions if that is the route you go -- there are probably ways to set things so they stay IN better.

I favour something flat-ish that will wear well. This is going to be interesting for me because in hot weather I can't bear to wear any jewellery at all and most of the time I only wear it at work. It's going to have to be something I *love*

Maybe something like this would work for you all? I have loved this designer's work for years, the etched lettering looks really beautiful, and they can incorporate stones too for the people who like to have stones.
If you're hard on rings then platinum is a good material, although I can tell you from experience that it definitely does get superficial scratches and doesn't remain completely shiny (I think that adds character, though). OTOH, I've been wearing a silver Russian wedding ring for about 18 years now and it is still holding its shape just fine, so precious metals aren't necessarily a dealbreaker.

Good to know - I've nearly bashed a silver + opal ring to death in a maddeningly short time period but opal is very soft.
