Wiscon, Moon and values

I mapped out what I could see of the Elizabeth Moon / Wiscon discussion happening as part of my Ethics unit - I’m really impressed at how people are speaking and what I see as the values being expressed. It seemed to me that a critical value is that people should speak and not be silenced and that this core assumption then drove a lot of the ensuing discussion about who / when / where.

This is a first draft based on a reasonably quick pass through so please feel free to question / correct / improve if you feel it’s not accurate or appropriate.

It is an interesting thing to look at, though I think I would make some connection between "Islamic people may not attend or feel safe at Wiscon" and "We should examine how to engage with this more at Wiscon," at least if what you mean in the latter is at Wiscon with those who are physically present.

I agree there should be a connection, I'm not sure if it is hierarchical though. I'm not sure I want either to be the 'top level' so to speak, I can link them so they sit parallel - what do you think?

Yeah, I think that's the sort of thing I had in mind (although this is really not my area of expertise, it is a fascinating technique -- now I am wondering if I could do this with some discussions I'm part of elsewhere).

I'll keep them parallel.

I once, during a period of crisis, mapped out my entire social network and used it to work out who I wanted to put more energy into. It was very useful.

ETA *g* by which I mean you can use this technique to play with all sorts of ideas and it's very useful!

oh wow, it looks like popplet are developing a web based shareable version where you can work collaboratively on one - that could be a fantastic consultation tool.
