I mapped out what I could see of the Elizabeth Moon / Wiscon discussion happening as part of my Ethics unit - I’m really impressed at how people are speaking and what I see as the values being expressed. It seemed to me that a critical value is that people should speak and not be silenced and that this core assumption then drove a lot of the ensuing discussion about who / when / where.

This is a first draft based on a reasonably quick pass through so please feel free to question / correct / improve if you feel it’s not accurate or appropriate.

I also ended up reviewing three mind mapping apps for the ipad.

It is an interesting thing to look at, though I think I would make some connection between "Islamic people may not attend or feel safe at Wiscon" and "We should examine how to engage with this more at Wiscon," at least if what you mean in the latter is at Wiscon with those who are physically present.

Yeah, I think that's the sort of thing I had in mind (although this is really not my area of expertise, it is a fascinating technique -- now I am wondering if I could do this with some discussions I'm part of elsewhere).

I've actually seen "Wiscon is a professional environment" and "Bigots should not be allowed to speak at Wiscon" linked to each other in terms "Wiscon is a professional environment and as such, bigots and extremists should not be allowed to speak because it affects our brand".

Interesting. I can see the logical connections more clearly in the second chart, maybe because of the parent-child set up.

I can barely get the popplet one readable.

Nice charts though btw

do you have an 'in a nutshell' link for the Wiscon discussion? somehow I've completely missed that it is happening at all.
