The sunrise was spectacular and we admired it while eating cereal and packing up the tents. All our getting ready was a trifle premature as the site management didn't open until 8am and we had to loiter outside playing frizbee until they came to take our money.
Lunch was in Carnarvon; I have always imagined it as being kinda lush with lots of banana palms - as it happens I was almost right, it has a lot of banana palms. The burgers were excellent and the chinese too scary to attempt.
We hit Exmouth in the late afternoon and one car bolted ahead firmly believing car #2 had stopped owing to the weaker bladders of the occupants. This was not actually true, they were thoughtfully buying more food and incidentally locating restrooms. We stopped at the Vlaming Lighthouse to check out the view and kill mosquitos.
The view back East was almost more impressive than the sun setting as the combination of colours in the sky are incredible.
So beautiful.
The lookout was covered in tourists and tour buses with some unusual scooters, motorbikes and bicycles thrown in for good measure. Clearly a popular spot and no guesses why.
As yet unnamed but very pretty purple flowers that grew everywhere. A botanist I am not. As with most of the foliage up here they had an impressive set of hidden spikes.
We camped just down behind the flowers in this photos on rock hard ground in some charming sheoaks with 'ocean glimpses'. There was some serious BBQing then we headed down to the beach to watch the stars, drink port and drop chocolate in the sand.

Looking East as the sun sets at Vlaming Lighthouse I can't believe the colours in the sky and bay. |
So beautiful.
