In terms of almost all aspects of the movie it was terrible. Plot? Development? Characterisation? I know not of what you speak.
In terms of things blowing up, people having the odd good line and the slashyness of it all it was good fun. I don't remember the other two movies being quite as B'grade but maybe my memory lies.
The people in foyer standing waaaay apart waving and flapping at each other were calculating wing-span ratios; it was science; which I can understand you being confused about because there was none in the movie.
Great moments included the lass next to me watching Juggernaut smash through walls leaning over to say "With a tapered head for ease of insertion" whereupon I nearly choked.
I alo think Phoenix would have been fabulous at high volume garbage disposal.

X2 wasn't bad, it was a damn good film.
It started out okay, and was okay in places, but overall just badly done.
Characters weren't true to themselves...
- the non character of storm
- logan being all goody goody
- no deep conflict with rogue
- no angst with archangel
- K and L are still wondering who psylocke was (they were not alone)
- from about when Xavier 'died' it was wishywashy.... all over the place, with an awful awful ending.
- there were some comments that Ian McKellan must have been thinking of the pay check throughout.
- what happened with the mutant with the 'cure' at the end?
- dark phoenix was awe inspiring in terms of effects, but actual drive and intent... not from what i remember from the stories, nor it seems others with greater familiarity than i
- such an easy explaination for a 'cure'... just as easily disbanded - so not believable.
