Well on that first page you link to there this graphic, but that's only compared to a couple of other diseases, and only in the US.

Mmm, I think he's mixing it up with depression. There was recently an international study (sorry, no cites, Journal of I Saw It Somewhere Studies) that said the depression rate worldwide was 1 in 7 adults.

That is a lower rate than I remember from under grad psych - possibly because of the over 18 rider. I think it only outstrips depression because it is chronic, and depression frequently goes sufficiently into remissiion that people are considered to not have it any more. (vague memories are vague)

And going off and reading your first link, I discover that it isn't necessarily more chronic than depression, but it sounds like it is much more disruptive of lives (not so much the individual, although there is an aspect of that, but more the circle of disruption is wider).
