Tower Prep: Bastard child of X-Files and Harry Potter. It’s pitched low but I love how every episode reveals more bizarre information about the school. I tend to shout ‘Yay!’ when more weird crap gets exposed. So far we have psychic powers, cyborg guards, an incomprehensible new sport, a psychotic AI, a sekrit fraternity, some feral children and lots of unwitting experimental subjects. I have high hopes for robots, ghosts, Yoda, unicorns and, if I’m really lucky, velociraptors.
Misfits: Came highly recommended by
lemmings and turns out to to be exactly tuned to hit my dark humour-ometer. Kids doing community service get hit by lightning and develop weird powers. I loved how the characters developed.
Shock to the System and On the Other Hand, Death: Sparky the Gay Detective! Solid detective stories with a fantastic lead character and his adorable husband. I love Donald and Timothy’s relationship.
The Fallen: No, not the war movie, the documentary or that other one - the one with fallen angels and nephilim. Distressingly terrible but with FLAMING SWORDS and cool winged fights. Of the 6 hours I watched I kinda want the last 4 hours back.
Unstoppable: I sort of expected from the preview that I'd already seen the whole movie but it sustains tension all the way through and was unexpectedly gripping. I have issues with using domestic violence as a plot when it's resolved by getting back together because LOVES CONQUERS ALL since that's how the domestic violence dynamic plays out when you don't escape but otherwise I really enjoyed it.
