Fun! I drifted in and out of a few gigs, spent a surprising amount of time in the D surrounded by bouncing, singing people bouncing and singing and generally had a good time.

Arrived with [personal profile] maharetr and kicked off at 12:15 with Lisa Mitchell who apparently has problems being pelted with coins during performances of 'Coin Laundry'. I could listen to her happily but would probably not seek her out. Also found [personal profile] prk and [personal profile] amarillion. I wandered briefly into The Novocaines set but wandered out again, saw the first half of Blue Shaddy (who I love, and want to love from a Blues festival, not the BDO) before I was lured to Kasabian by the enormous sound (do they record as well as they play live because that was awesome). I saw all of Eskimo Joe (I have local girl love), stayed for Hilltop Hoods (who say 'muthufucka' more than I care to hear but were vibrant and fabulous), ate something not meant for human consumption then saw Abbe May & the Rockin' Pneumonia (whose remaining unpurchased music I will now purchase, I love Abbe's voice).

Lily Allen confused me at first (I had no prior knowledge) but her combination of cute and sass was very winning, plus entertaining wardrobe malfunction. I wanted to love Magic Dirt but their first song was a wall'o'sound I could not get over (which says I am an idiot for not bringing earplugs), I caught up briefly with cricketk before they cranked up so still calling that experience a win. I bailed for Powderfinger who were an excellent band to be right in the middle of the crowd for (good crowd too, playful, not trying to crush me to death and I thoroughly approve of crowd surfing being replaced by playing volleyball with inflatable objects). Muse were good. I enjoy them but they are not quite my thing, I find the music very same-same which is awesome if you really like it because they keep writing your song but harder for me to find a standout to love. *g* They did a cover of Back in Black that I loved to bits.

Utterly failed to catch up with [personal profile] ascetic_hedony at all; maintained an elusive SMS relationship. It was interesting seeing how integrated use of mobile phones / SMSing was, even though I spent most of the day surrounded by strangers I never felt like I was.

I thought about staying for Peaches which was 10-11pm (who I think would be very cool live) but my stamina ran out (plus working Monday) and we retreated home to assure the woofer he is still loved and scrub the sunblock off. The Big Day out smells of sunblock, green grass, burnt grass and fried meat products, weirdly the smell reminds me of dive trips - maybe it's the water they were spraying us with as well.

Since they moved the boiler room outside, there's a lot of dust covered dancers....

Being a Muse lover, I always boggle a little when I hear people think they are same-y. But each to their own! Do you know this one though? It's definitely not the same :)

Hee, [livejournal.com profile] angriest saw the same gig and loves them even more (http://angriest.livejournal.com/454469.html) than you do.

That's a lovely song, but it's still a high pitched, wailed ballad to my ears. My favourite is Feeling Good (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sri5Cra5tdY) - I also love Nina Simone singing it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8tuTSi6Sck)

LOL Grant is adorable when he gets excited about Muse.

I have to say I wish Unintended was a little less waily... there's these little breaks in his voice I don't love, but the whole song is just so unexpected, and lovely.

I was almost afraid of him ;)

Unintended is very... wistful? I found a vid with Final Fantasy footage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Goc96ZNtck) to it - also pretty!
