Dragon Bones and Dragon Blood by Patricia Briggs. Solid, enjoyable fantasy. Boy with no sword or birthmark and a habit of pretending to be stupid to avoid being beaten to death by his father finally comes into his birthright. This involves an ancient curse, an angry horse, dragons, political intrigue and the best family ghost ever. Good character development too.

I rarely slash the books I read but I really wanted Ward and Oreg to further develop their relationship. They were so close and so invested in each other that the romance developed with Tisala felt like a side note in comparison.

I was also sad the only homosexual relationship in the story was a deeply abusive one involving mind control and paedophilia. Further, *cough* people who have male and female lovers are generally referred to as bisexual, it’s not like the gay trumps the straight.

You pretty much summed up my exact opinion of Dragon Bones. A fun romp with some nice twists, character development and Ward/Oreg OTP, but disappointing appearance of an abusive homosexual relationship.

...I didn't finish Dragon Blood because I fainted in chapter 1.

There's a threesome fic for it in the Yuletide archive. XD

Threesomes are the ultimate solutions to love triangles!

Writing some Ward/Oreg has been on my Yuletide NYR TODO list for a while, but it feels misogynistic to just ignore Tisala (even though I haven't finished the book where they get together), however if I were to include her I'd have to read the book, so I'm not really sure what to do. Ah well.
