I give this points for taking a very short book and turning it into a movie that should also have been very short. A good adaption, pity about the female gender roles. Loved the 'fort', thought Max Records did a good job.

Y'know, I didn't even think about gender roles in the movie. Which is funny because usually I do.

I liked it, though. And definitely, Max Records was quite good.

I enjoyed it, thought it was a bit light but then again, so is the book.

In fairness the monsters were clearly all parts of his psyche and he was very young...

I agree, but I also liked that the movie didn't push the correspondence between the island and Max's life so hard--not like The Wizard of Oz, say, where everything is very 1-to-1 at the end and Oz is clearly a dream.

I thought it was a good balance between storytelling and allegory :)

It's been so long since I saw The Wizard of Oz but I just saw Wicked and it was amazing!
