...oh god that sounds so wanky... but please, don't let my PC language cringe stop you supporting an important cause.

On Sunday, August 16th 2009, join families, friends and community members who support same-sex and gender diverse couples at our community picnic and support day, “Families for Freedom”. Wear something bright or rainbow coloured, and bring a rainbow umbrella if you can find one (you never know - it may rain on our parade!)

Date: Sunday, 16th Aug 09
Time: 11am - 2pm
Location: Cottesloe Beach Foreshore

That's excellent, sorry I won't be in the state. The recent Labor policy change on unions looks hopeful I think? xx

Unions as in marriage, not as in 'up the workers' :)

From ABC article a few weeks ago at the Labor conference: "But yesterday Labor stopped short of that [allowing gay marriage], agreeing to a compromise position that would see a register of same-sex relationships - the same system currently in place in Canberra - extended nation-wide".

The Age newspaper over here had the most beautiful picture of a protest for relationship equality on the front page, and a really great write-up - I forget sometimes that it isn't necessarily all media that is evil, just The West Australian.

I remember seeing this on the news a few weeks back... pity it's basically being placed on a back burner though, they're just sitting on a fence aren't they - yes we want to appease a large part of the population but wait, we'll anger the other part if we pass legislation. Given that KRudd is quite against the idea too...
