OTW: Wot I love, wot we did, wot we need & wot you can do

The process:

• I get to work with people I respect and admire on something we're all crazy and passionate about.
• I spend hours planning, talking, designing, and you know, scheming which, in case you haven't noticed, makes me happy.
• I get to play on the Test Archive Of Our Own and post weird, crappy test stories with made up summaries about socks and giant robots. It is incredibly rewarding.

The results: 

• The Archive of Our Own is in limited public Beta and the second we can afford co-located servers we'll be expanding that.
• Fanlore has steadily increasing content, I googled 'Draco Leather Pants' the other day (as you do) and Fanlore was the third hit.
• Transformative Works and Cultures I mostly admire from afare because I have no time.
• The Vidding history project is very exciting. I love watching vids but tend to get most of my involvement second-hand and knowing that it's being lovingly preserved fills me with joy.

The point:

• OTW is currently launching its second annual membership drive and I encourage anyone who would like to support them to toddle over and do so. You can join for all of $10 US and donate any value you want, you can make a one-off or scheduled donation which will go towards such worthy causes as buying servers and the ongoing costs of keeping them humming. Go on, you know you want to.
• If you have time and happen to have coding skills (or would like to develop some) then volunteer to work on the Archive of Our Own! Our mission is to build, but it is also to foster skills. If you want to brush up on Ruby on Rails or learn how it works in the first place, our coder group provides mentoring, training and ongoing fannish squee.
