That's fascinating. *plays around with colour levels in Paint* It's interesting that "violet" (a wavelength higher than anything produced by a computer) appears identical to blue + a little red.
I'd say 'is never monochromatic' rather than 'is not a colour', but that's not quite as snappy :)
On a related note, some people have four kinds of colour receptors, rather than the usual three - google for Tetrachromacy. It seems to be far more prevalent in women, but the jury's still out as to whether any men are true tetrachromats.
