*g* I'm sorry to say neither #1 or #2 came with definitions but my hints are as follows:

#1 does actually involve the word 'circle'
#2 the prompters are relevant here
#3 A quick departure
#4 A goal, hope or plan so far-fetched that it is extremely unlikely to be realised
#5 To fire at close range. Also to be direct and blunt

I don't think "begging the question" is right for #1, but then I don't think my answer is either. It's sort of embarrassing, since I have an MA in philosophy! (Of course, that was 30 years ago. :D)

I'm obviously in the minority on #2, but I'll stick with my answer there.

I've read some of the cards when maharetr brought them out a few weeks back. Why were those cards so much easier?
Actually, from memory, the cards I looked at were mostly words rather than phrases.
