   4,930. Journey from all three Winchester points of view based around three times Sam runs away. Has wonderful use of repetition.
   The first time Sam ran away from home he was nine years old. He was fed up with yet another move, another town, another set of lies to tell and (hopefully) friends to deceive, and he packed his bag one afternoon while his father was at work, at a janitorial job he picked up three weeks before and planned on leaving in two.

   1,157. Sam grieves for Jess and the loss of his dreams. Dean trying to be there for him is poignant.
   He swallows and tries again. “I’ll never have that—any of it. I’ll never sleep in a room like that for real, or have a wife or family of my own.”

   There was a time when Sam would have given anything to have the nightmares stop. When craving a good night’s sleep was like craving food or water, like he might die if they didn’t stop, if he couldn’t sleep.

   It feels like they've been driving forever and taking tiny slices out of each other all the way. Cutting with words and then slick-edged silence; both biting deep before he sees them coming.

    Sam always changed every other ending in Dean's life, but here Dean could control what part Sam altered. In one word, he could make all of his sentences about Dean instead of about 'Dean and Sam.' With one suffix, Dean could cut Sam out of all of his stories.
