Fish shopping! More fun than you might realise although it may not normally detour through the 'pythons' section in the pet store. [profile] kae_dash helped me buy my first ever fish and gave me this sweet little bowl - work suggested many names, most of which involved frying.

Ponyboy the fighting fish (Betta Splendens)

ETA: Has *noone* read The Outsiders?

Given the number of times you've been through this process I appreciate your support :p

It is always a wonderful thing to see it all come together :) The amount of times it happens is less important than the appreciation of joy and wonder on the person's face, the delight in their fish. I find it particularly charming that K looks that way every time.

*love*

*jumps waving* I have, I have. I can prove it!
*ahem* "nature's first green is gold. her hardest hue to hold. her early leaf's a flower. but only so an hour. then leaf subsides to leaf. so autumn sank to grief. so dawn goes down to day. nothing gold can stay".

I have even seen the movie.
:D

He's a beauty. Don't know much about fish except that my cousin used to have Betta's and I know it is not wise to put two male Betta's in the same bowl! Love the name, too. What's with your workmates, anyway? Bunch of Philistines! (Actually, I doubt many of mine have heard of it either:).)

He's very pretty!

I have stories... *dark look* I work with someone who once said 'Haiku - that's some sort of Japanese video game isn't it?'

Gorgeous. If it wasn't for the whole "they kill each other" thing, you could get another one and call it Sodapop. *flaunts knowledge* I love that book like burning.

*g* I was thinking the same thing!

That was one of my favourite books growing up. I've been meaning to check out her more recent novels.

I loved it to bits. I've read Rumble Fish and That Was Then, This is Now - they dealt with similar themes. It looks like she's written some happier stuff as well.

I love That Was Then, This is Now and also have Tex (great) and Taming the Star Runner (OK). There was a review of something she wrote recently in the paper not long ago and I've been meaning to check it out (but it will clearly have to wait until my Persuaders obsession has run its course).

I love Bettas so much! He has a lovely tail. I used to have a brilliant purple and red boy, he was my pride and joy!
