So I'm reading up on iridology - and playing with macro mode on camera and photoshop. Am as yet unimpressed with it as a diagnostic tool although I now know why people think I have brown eyes - I only look when the pupil is contracted and the brown seems proportionately small.

So...umm....what are we supposed to be looking for here? Dark patches, light patches, blobs, white bits, strange aliens, aurora opticalis? :)

Weakness in body tissues or organs often show up in the eye before they show up in medical tests. An iridologist will map out a person's eye and compare this chart to the iris charts developed by the founders in the 19th century. A complete iris analysis will show whether a person exhibits a generally good constitution or a poor one. The patterns, structures, colours and degrees of lightness and darkness in the iris tell the iridologist if you have any irritation, injury, over-activity or degeneration of the tissues and organs

As far as I can work out both [livejournal.com profile] cricketk and myself should have eyes like [livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony's. As we don't, we both have all sorts of hideous health problems.

There's been a great study done, testing the accuracy of iridologists vs medical specialists of various sorts, and lay people, using just photos of eyes. There were eyes from people before and after kidney disease, liver disease, etc etc.
Results were about the same for all groups of people - bloody hopeless.

[livejournal.com profile] juffles, [livejournal.com profile] ascetic_hedony and I went through pictures of our own eyes looking for major injuries that should have shown up and were saddened by their absence.

We had a lot of fun doing it though!
