Movies Meme - Totally [personal profile] maharetr's fault

Sunday, February 17th, 2008 07:35 pm
The gist of it is that you pick 15 of your favorite movies, go to IMDB and find quotes from each of them. Post answers as people guess! This would qualify more as 15 movies I am fond of.

When guessing: NO Google, NO searching IMDB yourself, or any of that sneaky internet stuff that we're all so good at. Just you and your memory!
  1. On the contrary but you were somewhat the worse or the better for the wine and there are rules about such things.  High Society [personal profile] e_dan
  2. It was a fair fight. Two of them, two of us...  Undercover Blues[info]maharetr
  3. I don't know anyone who could get through the day without two or three juicy rationalizations. They're more important than sex.
Ah, come on. Nothing's more important than sex.
Oh yeah? Ever gone a week without a rationalization?
  4. Some people say forgive and forget. Nah, I don't know. I say forget about forgiving and just accept. And... get the hell out of town.  Grosse Point Blank  [personal profile] justadecoy
  5. Cast back your minds. There we were, gathered together, gloomy and despondent, around a single meager woodcutter.  The Fearless Vampire Killers aka Dance of the Vampires
  6. No, African war zone; ship of death!  Sahara [info]maharetr
  7. At least you'll never be a vegetable - even artichokes have hearts.  Amelie [personal profile] purrdence
  8. Yeah? From what I hear, you couldn't hit water if you fell out of a fucking boat.  Bull Durham [personal profile] scotsnow
  9. God willing, we will prevail, in peace and freedom from fear, and in true health, through the purity and essence of our natural... fluids. God bless you all  Dr Strangelove Mr [personal profile] stephbg
  10. Cordon Bleu calling Onion Snipers. Artichoke Heart here.  Delicatessen [personal profile] scotsnow
  11. What the hell are we supposed to use man? Harsh language?  Aliens [info]missyjack
  12. Your women. I want to buy your women. The little girl, your daughters... sell them to me. Sell me your children.  The Blues Brothers [info]missyjack
  13. I give up. I see no point in living if I can't be beautiful.  Howl's Moving Castle
  14. That's twice this month you've slipped deadly nightshade into my tea and run off.  Nightmare Before Christmas [personal profile] cricketk
  15. You mean this? This is just a personal grooming appliance.  Pitch Black [info]missyjack

2. Undercover Blues!

6. Sahara, baby!

And I feel I should know 4... Oh! Ocean's Eleven? And I'm only thinking of that because of the Heroes trailer.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 11:03 am (UTC)
I may have forced you to watch 4. but I forgive you for not remembering!
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 11:07 am (UTC)
I have googled, and I hang my head in shame.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 11:13 am (UTC)
Must be time to watch again :p
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 10:53 am (UTC)
Probably a state reflection on my movie viewing - the only ones I recognise are:

11. Aliens

12. Blues Brothers

13. The inimitable Vin Diesel in Pitch Black.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 11:05 am (UTC)
Well done!

Yups ;-)
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 11:38 am (UTC)
14. Nightmare before Christmas? And Missyjack got the other two I recognise.

Also, I notice an artichoke theme here - very interesting.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 11:44 am (UTC)
Spot on!

What can I say, I love teh artichoke quotes.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 12:06 pm (UTC)
#8 Bull Durham!
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 02:00 pm (UTC)
D'oh. #10 is, of course, Delicatessan.

Wasn't paying attention on my first read through. :P

Sunday, February 17th, 2008 02:08 pm (UTC)
A great movie!
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 02:06 pm (UTC)
And #7 is Amelie! Dammit. I'm not looking at anymore!

However, a bit of a Jean-Pierre Jeunet fan, ain't'cha? ;-)
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 02:09 pm (UTC)
Maaaaaaybe.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 12:44 pm (UTC)
#9 Dr Strangelove

Credit to Husband.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 01:08 pm (UTC)
Woo!

I didn't think anyone would get that.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 01:10 pm (UTC)
I don't know any of these but I'd like to congratulate you on including Undercover Blues, it's a truly awesome movie! :)
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 01:16 pm (UTC)
I *love* that movie to bits.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 01:48 pm (UTC)
Me too. If we can find a mutually agreeable time in the near future, I'd love to see it again. It's too long since I've had the joy of laughing at Muerte. :)
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 01:50 pm (UTC)
Well you have a sexy voice - but hey I'm a happily married man.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 02:04 pm (UTC)
#7 is from Amelie
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 02:08 pm (UTC)
Well spotted! I thought I might have been far too obscure.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 02:32 pm (UTC)
4: Grosse Point Blank

I love that film and all it's many Cusacks. 4 I think.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 10:25 pm (UTC)
This one was one my many favourite lines.
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 03:41 pm (UTC)
> I give up. I see no point in living if I can't be beautiful.

Clueless?
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 10:25 pm (UTC)
Afraid not - think animated...
Monday, February 18th, 2008 12:06 am (UTC)
I feel like 13 could be Finding Nemo, but I've still never seen it the whole way through.
Monday, February 18th, 2008 12:38 am (UTC)
Hrm nopes, think not nearly as commercial animated... the sad thing is you of all people should get this one.
Monday, February 18th, 2008 05:55 am (UTC)
Clearly nobody else is going to get it so ...

#13 is Howl's Moving Castle.

And #5 is Dance of the Vampires. Frankly, I'm impressed to find somebody else who's even heard of this, never mind seen it ...

Assistant - Shouldn't we build a barricade?
Professor Abronsius - No, that would be bad tactics.

Hee hee.
Monday, February 18th, 2008 06:02 am (UTC)
You googled those :p
Monday, February 18th, 2008 06:09 am (UTC)
Nope. I own the latter and saw the former recently. I wouldn't have gotten Howl's otherwise. But I can quote The Fearless Vampire Killers (aka Dance of the Vampires) at you all day. :D

"Oy vey, have you got the wrong vampire."
Monday, February 18th, 2008 06:17 am (UTC)
I'd be more convinced if you hadn't used quotes from imdb!
Monday, February 18th, 2008 06:30 am (UTC)
Actually, I grabbed those quotes from the quotes file on my computer, which I transcribed from the movie ages ago. But it's your quiz, you da boss. :P

But I find it slightly disconcerting that I can quote from *most* of Polanski's films, and I wouldn't have classed him as one of my favourites. Perhaps I need to rethink that ...

"So long as she ate the mouse, she can't see or hear - now sing." (Also one of my favourite books.)

"Ok. Enough's enough. You can't eat the Venetian blinds. I just had them installed on Wednesday ..."

"Even Hell has its heroes, senor."

:P

It's one of my favourites, I love the facial expresions!
