At the Dolphin Theatre UWA. The season finished last night and [personal profile] cupidsbow and I were up for some cheap entertainment - impulse theater-going - often the best kind. Lear was a reminder of just hilarious Shakespeare can be. Edgar/Tom was laughing-out-loud mad and Lear's outbursts of rage were magnificent to behold.

hum!
We went on Thursday night (birth day and all), suckered in, cause one of our friends is the lighting director for it :)

Long, tedious in places - the first act crammed a helluva lot in, but rather enjoyable.

And very uncomfortable seating :p

Happy Birthday by the way.

I must cofess to having cringed at the delivery of many of the lines, but I thought the standout performances were Edgar (when he was doing Poor Tom) and Kent - they had a believability and elegance of characterisation that I just didn't get from the others. I was also impressed with the clarity of speech - I found myself thinking that if I had to caption the performance, it would have been pleasantly easy work :) Bravery points to any amateur theatre group who performs Shakespearean tragedy - they're hard to pull off, and these guys did a good job with a very complex and challenging play.

Mmm I'd forgotten Kent in the wake of the Leary tantrums but you're right - she did a good job - although I found the body language very distracting.
