  1. Author rec: Stele3 Compelling writing. I'm not always inclined to read the hurty stuff but Stele3 has a positive gift for capturing aspects of Sam and Dean's characters that rings so true that I can't look away. The way the Winchesters relate in these stories draw me in and leave me holding my breath. It's not all pain either, there is some wonderful humour in here. I'm not sure I could even pick out an absolute favourite.

The 1300 Days, (Gen, R) follows Dean through four years without Sam. Poignant and real.
Untitled, (Gen PG-13) Sam resurrects Dean after he dies and learns a hell of a lot about their relationship. Painful and amazing.
In The Company of Demons, (Het, NC-17) the boys end up in a twisted relationship with an incubus who needs them to survive. The bit that grabs me is how Stele2 draws out Dean and Sam's relationship and Dean's need for family and Sam's (fraternal) love.
The World's a Small Child in the Dark, (Wincest, NC-17) a post 2x22 story in which Dean has pages of things he wants to do but Sam has only one.
The Epic Love Story of Sam and Dean, (Wincest, NC-17) a romance Winchester style, has some of the best 'internal Dean' in existence.
The Amazing, Incredible Adventures of Freakboy and Dykegirl (Gen, NC-17, 87,200 words so far and a WIP), has one of the best OFCs ever plus humour, angst, and Dean being himself so hard it hurts. Read In the Company of Demons first for the full impact - not required though.

  2. This is the Way the World Ends by Storydivagirl (Sam, Dean) PG-13
3,028. Brotherly chitchat as the world ends in nuclear war and ghouls. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
  3. Every Dog by Minkmix (Sam, Dean) PG
1,270. Dean tries to explain having a 'hot day' to Sam. Sam ponders. Cute, funny and sweet.
“For reasons unknown to man,” Dean patiently explained. “There are random days when the average individual supersedes his own physical mediocrity"
  4. Seldom a Straight Line by Black_regalia (Sam/Dean) R
12,154. A look at Sam's psychic powers and a possible future.
Time passes and Sam's powers have an unexpected effect on the lives of both him and his brother.
  5. The Best Imitation of Myself by Kroki-refur (Sam, Dean) PG-13
3,575. Dean always manages to be himself, even when he's not. Sam ties himself up in knots about it.
  6. Living Spectrum by Ellipsisblack (Sam/Dean) R
1,249. I love stories where Dean has abilities as well. This is very sweet in a manly Dean-like way. Dean discovers he can see people's auras and handles it in typical Dean fashion.
  7. Words Unspoken by Wolfling (Sam, Dean) G
1,590. Post 1x15 - Benders. Dean has nightmares afterwards, Sam does what he can.
"Sometimes there's more said in the dark and the spaces between words than is actually spoken."
  8. Code of the Boys by Dodger-winslow (John, Dean) R
4,500. John reflecting just after Sam left for Stanford. This is painfully apt, with loving and inspired characterization.
  9. Think I'll Go Eat Worms by Chaobell (Dean, OFC) PG-13
10,383. Hilarious Dean abuse by a grown up tomboy who knows no fear and is utterly unimpressed by his charm. Because panicked!Dean is always funny.
  10. I Got Me a Nice Little Place in the Stars by Luzdeesrellas (Sam/Dean) PG
25,314. AU where John died. Dean hunts alone and Sam learns that having Dean back is all he could ask for. Lyrical with gorgeous brotherly interaction.
  11. There's Never Time to Save, You're Paying By the Hour by Musesfool (Sam, Dean) PG-13
6,710. Post 2x22. The boys find a haunted motel, a prostitute and do some laundry. Excellent voices, lovely interaction.
"What are the odds we pull into a freaking haunted motel? I swear, it's like the only karma we have is bad."
  12. Or Something Like That by Wofl_iron (Sam, Dean) PG
1,545. A day in the life of teen aged Winchesters. Sam is mildly bratty and rather pissed off. Dean is hungry and guilty.
