And it turned out to be a pentet not a trilogy but that's OK because I finished book three in a state of determination and hypnotised curiosity as to whether it could get any worse and the location of books four and five aren't of great concern to me.

How could the person who created Ender's Game and Songmaster be responsible for such tripe? It's repetitive and preachy and the whole boy/girl thingy was getting on my nerves and I am still waiting for a character I could like or even loathe.

Waaahh. I feel betrayed.

Some re-reading, I keep seeing them in $2 boxes at Elizabeth's and thinking "Why not?"

And indeed why not, the Stainless Steel Rat is funny, cute, amoral and talented as he charges through the universe creating work for the police, livening up economies and giving the newspapers something to write about.

It turns out Harry Harrison is partially responsible for the horror that is Bill the Galactic Hero.
