We were all set to head South early-ish Friday night, shall blame J. for the sudden need to watch Buffy episodes. Arrived at camp site shortly after 11pm, set up tent and did sleep thingy. Arose to admire a truly lovely day with blue skies and tiny little white puffs of cloud then puttered around happily making sandwiches and having breakfast. Collected maps, planned route and bonded with people camped next to us who turned out to be interesting.

Set out, did some alarmingly doughy navigating which culminated in realising we hadn't brought a couple of things we kinda should have and came in after 10 of the possible 12 hours. Score lower than we were happy with but had a good time.

Saw many many flowers, kangaroos and ticks (ugh).

Was in the beautiful position of being most of the way up a large hill on a granite slab when the sun set, it looked as if someone had dipped their fingers in crimson and fuchsia then clawed the sky. Wow.

Did much sitting about near the fire and chatting and surprise! Mountain Designs was sponsoring the event and a pair of hiking socks was won - rarely do my socks come with diagrams. Came back late Saturday night because the thought of sleeping overnight without getting to do a full body tick check was unbearable.

Composed of such inspiring titles as Fool’s Errand, The Golden Fool and Fool’s Fate this series slots in neatly after the Liveship Traders trilogy. They were good traveling books with a semi-decent plot hidden under a great deal of irritating lead character. I liked the previous trilogy far more and am heartily sick of waiting for the plot to unfold through the medium of Fitz’s inadequacy. They should have been called Fitz’s Faux Pas, Fitz’s Failure and Fitz’s Flub.

Fitz rejoins the rest of the human race after sulking for several years only to find himself on a quest to (surprise surprise) secure the future of the Farseer throne. He manages to alienate all his friends at least once, have problems with the Wit, the Skill and spends a lot of time moping.
