Have been partly re-reading and partly finally getting book four which I was slack about buying. I have kind of mixed feelings about this series; I still had the 'can't put it down' problem but was also reluctant to start. The series itself is about Tristan who comes into being as the innocent, feckless ward of the wizard Mauryl who has Summoned him for purposes somewhat undefined but probably having to do with Battling Evil. Tristan must find his way through wizardry, sorcery and magic (not to mention friendship and vast amounts of politics) to who he really is - or who he chooses to be.

Titanic battles!
Vile sorcery!
Enigmatic old wizards!

Fortress in the Eye of Time
Fortress of Eagles
Fortress of Owls
Fortress of Dragons

I'm interested to hear about this, because a favourite fanfic author of mine just mentioned that she likes C J Cherryh's books for the m/m interaction. Can you recommend one along those lines to me?

Cyteen, it's one of her absolute best. I must have read it over 15 times by now. I pimp it to people sometimes but they get put off by the quivering and the dribbling.

I've a copy which you are welcome to borrow, Supernova often has it and you sometimes see it secondhand. It's also published as a trilogy but I suggest you avoid - it's one complete story that some marketing fiend thought they could get three books out of.

The story is set on the planet Cyteen in the Resune laboratories where a group of powerful geneticists and scientists create cloned humans to order. It's about what happens when Ariane Emory; old, corrupt and ruthless; is found dead - possibly murdered. A lot of the story is from the perspective of Justin and his companion Grant who are members of Resune society and whose fate is intricately connected to Ari's.

I could babble for ages but don't want to spoil it more than I already have.
