I have a new toy

It’s a sewing machine. New. Mine. I also now have a mostly finished new test dress (not using the beautiful red fabric until I feel safer) that mostly worked out except for the startling cleavage and a sudden urge to buy a dressmakers dummy, which I will not be succumbing to, really.

oh, and dressmakers dummy in the back room has max measurement 100/80/102 on the dials (thats bust/waist/hip), and seems reasonably accurate (having just taken to it with the tape measure). sorry.

I can't say as I've done much sewing type stuff (in terms of clothes anyway) since high school. (And it wasn't clothes even then.) Apart from that cloak that my mother and I worked on for one of the cons (Yes the one where I was taking people out to look at the moon). And that involved much stress and things being thrown across the room (soft things, fabric mostly) and I've never been confident enough to try actual sewing for myself. Maybe one day I'll do one of those mini courses in it.

It was very much learn as you go for me; my mother had a sewing machine and I had access to a lot of op shops so I gradually built up from patching the knees of my jeans to making the jeans. Then I discovered how much easier dresses are!
