This is the sequel to Ayuamarca: Procession of the Dead which was loaned to me during a terrible period of book deprivation.

The city is run by a shadowy underworld figure known as the Cardinal, he is 'joined at the soul' to the city and seems to know everything. He manipulates and controls via his network of violence, intimidation and information. Ayuamarca and Hell's Horizon are set over the same time period from vastly different perspectives. They are linked by the Cardinal, the legendary assassin Paucar Wami and the city's Incan forefathers.  Hell's Horizon features Al, who is seconded to a murder investigation by the Cardinal. His detective work uncovers a steadily escalating chain of violence and deception - but who is ultimately responsible?

To my sorrow, there is an unpublished book three out there somewhere, just waiting for love. I spent a lovely hour in the bath, one toe on the hot tap, trying not to get the pages wet. This was after reading on the train to work, and on the train home. I took time out to walk the woofer and talked fluffy toys with the great dane owner and didn't look impatient once. Even when Scruffy stole my tennis ball - does every neighbourhood have a pack of teenaged boys with a labrador called Scruffy?
