Today we finished covering the coast of the national park by doing the Southern section from Yardie Creek back up to Osprey Bay. We started at Yardie Creek and paddled south along the coast before turning to avoid the mounting waves.

When we returned, there was just enough swell for us to surf through the inlet into the tranquil gorge of Yardie Creek. This was fun - you wait for a good wave, paddle as hard as you can, go WHEE! over the sandbar and up into the gorge. I really loved the mangroves and how their twisty little roots crept into every crevice in the rocks they could find.

J. up against the red rocks and the mangroves.

We floated in the shade through the steep red limestone cliffs and enjoyed the sight of the rare black footed rock wallabies and a variety of birdlife, from big majestic white and grey birds to little tweeters that were rather taken with our brightly coloured kayaks.

The birds LOVED the boats.

After some lunch, a dip, car shuffle and Z. getting buried in the sand, we had a good solid paddle back up the coast to Osprey. The marine life was at its magnificent best and we enjoyed surging our way home with the sun on our backs. After some good food and scintillating conversation we were ready to crash, with some taking the opportunity to sleep out on the dunes.
