Early morning! Not nearly as impressive as the crazy and dedicated people starting in at 1am though.
- Co-location: We have the go-ahead to order servers. Two beautiful HP servers stuffed full of RAM and hard drives. I HOPE YOU ARE EXCITED TOO. Now we have to order the bits, wait for them to get to our co-location facility, install our operating system, and migrate the AO3 over. Then we test the code on the new setup and test the performance. If all goes well we’ll being doing this throughout August followed by some serious celebrating
- Deploy Schedule: We’re going to try and bundle up all the big changes we require for Open Beta into a single code drop, we don’t want do it at the same time as the co-location testing so we’re scheduling the drop for mid-late September. It gives the Coders more time to code and also means our Testers aren’t going to be regression testing on the Co-loc site AND the Test site simultaneously *mumbles about resources and baselines*.
- Open Beta: We’re aiming for early October at present, and we’ve got so many different plates spinning that I cracked and mapped it all in MS Project (the devil’s work but very useful when you need it) - it's very pretty and makes my project manager heart go 'thump'.
- Testers: We welcome a bunch of new volunteers coming on board in time to support the preparation and testing for our much anticipated move to co-located facilities. Thank you!
