Sploosh!
Bit choppy, did play ball, go for a bit of a distance paddle then arse about lots. Two people fell out and gave opportunities to practice deep sea rescues. A. did much discussing of technique and told some astoundingly bad jokes - pity he's taken. Much fun had learning how to bounce a ball out of the water onto your paddle then hurl it to/at someone.
Must be able to demonstrate:
· Basic forward & backward paddle and sweep strokes
· Emergency stop
· Basic capsize drill with deck on and complete a deep sea rescue
· Eskimo rescue (as a rescuee and rescuer)
· Recognisable pull draw, bow draw, scull draw, scull support (alternate low brace & forward paddle), low & high brace
· Deep sea rescue (unassisted)
· Can 'Hand-of-God' rescue a panicked beginner.
· Judge their own paddling capabilities and understand different skill levels.
· Soft skills (For supervising, wind, waves, tides, hypothermia, club safety requirements etc)

You come up alongside them, reach over their kayak so you are grabbing their hand from the far side, push down on the near side of their kayak and flip them back upright. Example piccies here. (http://www.useakayak.org/hand_of_god.html)
Can apparently be done to unconscious people as well.
White light comes out of my ears when I do this...
