I learned some new words and this is a Good Thing but felt there was a lot of metaphor stretching that didn’t work for me; I found myself thinking does he know what that word means? quite a lot, usually followed by Oh he’s being clever....

I found Perdido Street Station more interesting and more accessible, partly because I liked Isaac more than any of the characters in Iron Council and possibly also because the former was less filled with despair.

Still planning on reading The Scar but feeling a little trepidation. Am going to take a break from all those superlatives and reread His Dark Materials and Stardust.
