Run every six months for enable literacy tutors to get together, hear a presentation on literacy related issues and attend workshops on specialist tutoring areas.

The key speaker was Ian Lillico who has been involved in education, particularly boys education and the raising of them for 30 odd years. He said some fabulous things about learning styles and type of intelligence and spoke extensively about relating styles and emotional skills. I can't remember who brought it up but I remember someone talking recently about the five 'Languages of Love' which are the ways that people want to be told (or tell people) they are loved.
  • Quality time
  • Touch
  • Gifts
  • Praise
  • Service
The idea being that you probably use and desire a mix but also will have particular personal needs.

I went to a workshop on English as a Second Language tutoring and was given a vast amount of useful tools and some great anecdotes. I've also been lent a copy of Essential Grammar in Use which I'm hoping will prove interesting and useful.

Apparently the news is read at 140 words per minute.
