Short(er) seminar than usual, we had an alternate lecturer and whizzed through the material at speed.

Went to a seminar with Peter Thompson called "How Leaders Communicate" which was a rambling discussion about this and that. A tangent we didn't get to explore was how social media is replacing 'official' news sources in generation X, Y and presumably Z. I am wondering if this is a natural response to the lack of credibility of 'official' news.

It was a bad fortnight for my brain and then my neck and it feels like my biggest accomplishment was seeing 58 episodes of The Big Bang Theory.

Accounting for Economic Entities is a topic that made sense to me. This is where you combine the Coles empire in a single consolidated statement (group includes Coles, Bi-Lo, Target, Kmart and Officeworks, owned by Wesfarmers), rather than having to wade through all the individual statements. Corporate fraud here seems mostly do with with lying about what entities you really control and whether they gave you money.

OMG half way through already, we skipped up two flights of stairs to use a lecture theatre that was cooler - UWA is powersaving and spending that energy on the labs *g* the temperature was pretty decent for me.

Brain so much better that last week, did readings and enjoyed them - or accrual accounting is fundamentally more interesting.

No, nothing to do with stamina or energy drinks alas since doing readings were hard going and involved a lot of sneak trips to the kitchen to raid the dried cranberry stash – seriously, people call them craisins? It sounds like a combination of raisin and craven – bad trademark Ocean Spray, just bad.

A bit foggy yesterday, my body was doing that thing it does before I get my period where it tries to achieve the closest thing to a coma possible. I did my readings very quietly with lots of breaks to stare at the wall and cuddle the woofer. Work, I love you and your willingness to give me study leave SO MUCH.

The pre-content discussion had me vowing to look up accounting scandals like the Satyam scandal and Opes Prime (which is reminiscent enough of Optimus Prime to be interesting if only to wonder where the name came from). Even better, it turns out Wikipedia has a Corporate Scandals category - see Salad Oil scandal (because it's there).

artiodactyl: having an even number of toes on each foot. Not related, but interesting to me nonetheless.

**Acronyms summarised at the end.

The introduction was very comforting, I have been trying to have no expectations because most of the (many) CPAs I have worked with haven't had much personality overlap. I was concerned this would be a really challenging course to get into. The assessment is broad and has a test, team and peer assessment component as well as an exam (I like this model).
